American Heart of Poland for You Diseases of the cardiovascular system, in particular these resulting from atherosclerotic process, still remain to be the main cause of deaths and disabilities in Poland. Today, the treatment of myocardial infarction or chronic coronary disease became the domain of high-class specialists and centres equipped with the most modern apparatuses. Until recently, only two university clinics met these requirements, however, they are quite often located far away from the place where the patient lives. Polish-American Heart Clinics - American Heart of Poland /PAKS/ have been established in 2000 by a group of outstanding physicians from Poland and the United States of America, with an objective to popularise the latest methods related with treating cardio-vascular disorders by creating a network of modern departments of cardiology and angiology. PAKS have their units in Ustroń, Bielsko-Biała, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Kędzierzyn Koźle, Starachowice, Mielec, Polanica Zdrój, Nysa, Tychy and Chrzanów. Multi-Specialist Clinic in Wrocław constitutes the infrastructure for non-invasive diagnostics. Clinics also have their CT and MRI laboratories in Oleśnica, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Chrzanów, and they are equipped with the most modern devices to perform highly specialized radiological examinations. The wards provide 24-hour shifts for patients with various forms of myocardial infarction, enabling their fast and efficient treatment with percutaneous heart catheterisation, the so-called coronary angioplasty. Locations of the wards allow to shorten the time required to transport patients for surgical therapy, which is of basic significance for the results related with treatment of this dangerous disease. The departments also offer their possibilities to patients from all over Poland, admitted according to the schedule of diagnostic procedures - such as coronarography and angiography, and of therapeutic procedures, such as coronary artery angioplasty and circumflex artery angioplasty, percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty procedures, non-operative treatment of thoracic aorta aneurysm by means of implementing stentgrafts, and implantation of heart stimulating sets, or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. The Board of American Heart of Poland also cared about the prophylactic activity related with diseases of the cardiovascular system, as it launched the following programmes in Hotel Wilga in Ustroń: educational-therapeutical programme for people with cardiac diseases and patients after cardiologic events, as well as recreational-therapeutic programme, implementing pro-healthy education within the scope of cardiologic diseases. Vacation for health is a combination of recreation, professional therapy, health education and good rest in picturesque surroundings of Silesian Beskid. Since its establishment the American Heart of Poland has become an important medical entity treating cardio-vascular disorders. In 2009 12643 patients have trusted us, and we have performed 6880 coronary angioplasty procedures with stent implantation, next to 1101 procedures on circumflex arteries. The strength of the American Heart of Poland lies in high class specialists, both the ones working full-time in local departments, and in physicians visiting our centres, both the ones from Poland and from abroad. Professor Paweł Buszman, MD, PhD is the person supervising the substantial activity within all of these units, while cardiologic consultations are controlled by Professor Andrzej Bochenek, MD, and PhD. The procedures offered by our clinics are realized within the scope of contracts covered by agreement with National Health Fund, but they can also be paid for by private entities. After many years of activity, clinics of the American Heart of Poland have become widely known and appreciated clinical wards in Poland. Potential of the company deserved a purposeful, organized and cyclic promotion in the country and abroad. Taking advantage of the potential, benefits and a guarantee that patients from Europe and USA shall be admitted, we have launched a promotional campaign outside Poland, related with the possibility of treatment in American Heart of Poland.
